Holly C. Miller is Pen Bay Healthcare Employee of the Month for December 2009
The Pen Bay Healthcare Human Resources Department is pleased to announce that Holly C. Miller, a grant writer for the Pen Bay Healthcare Foundation, is the
PBH Employee of the Month for December.
As Director of Foundations, Holly works with many departments throughout the Pen Bay system. According to Miller's supervisor, Penney Read, PBH vice president of development, Miller skillfully works with others to get the information she needs to submit grant applications; and she is always supportive, whether participants are experienced or just learning how to participate in the grant process.
Read continued: "Holly's professionalism is an outstanding role model to others in our department and throughout Pen Bay. Holly is a team player and has even offered recently to take a salary cut if it would keep her co-workers employed."
Holly has been in her position for more than seven years and she continually shows support for her fellow co-workers -- by mentoring clinicians through the grant process, mentoring new workers in her department, offering to share her office space if needed and assisting others with anything from growing federal appropriations to proof reading their work.
Holly lives with her 15-year-old daughter on their farm, Hope's Edge, in Hope. Hope's Edge is home to their horse, a couple of ponies, and is a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) farm where local farmer and friend Tom Griffin grows vegetables for 100 families.
As a single mother, Holly says she "appreciates that PBH is a family-friendly employer." The part of her job she finds most rewarding includes "associating with the people who provide direct care to the residents of our community. I like to think the work I do to bring in grant dollars will help them do their best work, and indirectly and directly help to improve patient care."
